“small changes make
 a large difference”

  \ President’s Message, 2011/2012:

  Charlene Landon,  SIB President

 December 2011

The season of reflection is upon us with old and new years’ breathing their last and first breathes.  The season’s ebb and flow and overlap into one another, “A long winter’s nap.”  As we try to spend time with family and friends amid the anticipation and preparations, we will also welcome the opportunity to decompress. When those quiet moments arrive, seize them and jealously take hold of them. Precious they are.

Take a few solitary moments to: Look upward to the brilliant winter skies and stargaze.  Look inward and realize your own uniqueness, there IS only one you, as rare as any star. Remember your own worth, the value of your ability and your acquired knowledge. These are the gifts we share and bestow on one another every day we live and in so doing we bless everyone in our tiny universe. The rarities that make you special are no mere accident or quirk of fate.

Christmas, a time to count our blessings, a time of sharing and giving, this is the joy of living.  May your Christmas be filled with peaceful moments and the realization that you are a gift!

Live Your Dream  The fourth annual Live Your Dream art contest is in full swing. The deadline is December 31, which still gives clubs time to hold their own contests locally before sending entries to headquarters by the due date. In addition to schools, clubs can also promote the contest to religious groups, boys and girls clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, after-school programs and community centers. Improving the lives of women and girls,
in local communities and throughout the world.

Here is the flyer for the Northwest Conference Against Trafficking sponsored by Soroptimist International Northwestern Region and many coalition partners.  Jane Velez-Mitchell, host of “Issues” at HLN will be among the speakers.  Velez-Mitchell will also receive the prestigious Soroptimist Ruby Award presented by SI Southwest Washington and SI Vancouver.  The conference will be held in Portland, Oregon and we are asking all of you to help us get the word out!

Please feel free to send the attached flyer to your friends, family, and local media!  Human Trafficking does exist in America and around the world.  All of us need to be “Looking Beneath the Surface” and with your help on January 9, 2010, our impact and efforts to bringing more awareness to this epidemic will be a powerful message of hope and help to the millions of women, children, and folks being trafficking each and every day in America and beyond.

Thank you in advance for being a helping hand in this effort and helping to get the word out!
